Robert Rickli

artist from Kleinbasel

As a trained precision mechanic, metal has been part of his professional life for as long as he can remember. His first works were inspired by an exhibition of Ricard Pagni's flying machines at Suter and Suter Architects around 1984, when he was working as an employee in the technical department.

The first works were created from old office chairs. Rivets found in the Rhine during the demolition of the Rhybadhüsli Breite were the starting point for rusty flying objects. Since then, rusty metal from water and soil has accompanied Robi's creative work to this day.

Some exhibitions over the past twenty years have caused objects to fly away and land elsewhere. The exhibition at Kultur Reverenz is a joyful stroke of luck and, with its proximity to the Rhine, the perfect location for the many objects found in this waterway.
