The artist Ruth Fritschi discovered stone carving later in life. She followed the path of "learning by doing," going from course to course. What started out as an experiment soon became a fascination. Her first breakthrough came in 2008 when she created her first sculpture on the theme of light and heavy. This was followed by variations on the theme over a period of several years.
In addition to technical craftsmanship, sculpting is a consistent exploration of shapes, surfaces, and volumes, of space and time. And more than that, it is also a consistent adherence to what is to be created, the inner image that is expressed and carved into the sculpture.
Sculptures radiate a soothing calm. They invite us to rest our eyes, they invite us to pause, linger, and connect.
