I came to embroidery as a form of artistic expression rather late in life. Although I was familiar with embroidery and its techniques through my mother and aunts, I saw it as a kind of subordinate, decorative function rather than an independent design element for an artistic project. That changed rather by chance when, at an advanced age, I had the idea of turning a so-called "telephone drawing" into an embroidery. It worked so well right away that I tackled further embroidered pictures, and to this day I have created a whole series of both ornamental and representational works. This craft activity brings me great joy, and I hope that my eyes and hands will keep up for a while longer.
