Pierre Grumbacher

outlooks

In his exhibition "Ausblicke" (Outlooks), Pierre Grumbacher shows works that were created over the last two years under the influence of lockdown. He explores the changes in human interaction, distancing and isolation, hopes and fears, but also the joy of restrictions being eased. The sculptures and photographs play with space, light and shadow, and movement.

The wire sculptures are each created from a single piece of wire—in the case of reinforcing bars, even with a specified length. In order to achieve the desired effect, the artist carefully considers the choice of path and the length of the path. In the wire sculptures created specifically for the photographs, the artist focuses particularly on the consequences of the chosen lines, as the image is only created through movement during a long exposure.

Pierre Grumbacher works in studios in Basel and Castagnola.
