The Akos Quartet, founded in 2015, consists of musicians Alexis Gomez (violin), Aya Murakami (violin), Katya Polin (viola), and Cyrielle Golin (cello). Inspired by the exhibition "L'Archet Révolutionnaire" in London in 2015 (historical bows from 1750 to 1830) curated by Jérôme Akoka, the Akos Quartet has offered a variety of concert programs on both classical and modern bows since its inception, depending on the selected repertoire.
The Akos Quartet has performed in numerous concert halls and at festivals, including: Konzerthaus Berlin, Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, Academy of Athens, Festival Format Raisins, Festival Flam', Le Chant de la Rive, Les Musicales de Ristolas, and Matinée Musicale d'Arles. It is also a regular guest on the radio show "Générations France Musique, le live," hosted by Clément Rochefort.
Awarded third prize and the Bärenreiter Prize at the 13th International Mozart Competition at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 2018, the Akos Quartet also won the Adolfo Betti Prize for best string quartet at the International Virtuoso e Belcanto Competition in Lucca in 2020. The quartet also won the 2016 Ensemble Revelation Prize at the Château de La Roche-Guyon master class during its debut.
The quartet draws inspiration, receives advice, and collaborates with renowned chamber musicians such as Luc-Marie Aguera, Jérôme Akoka, Leonidas Kavakos, Gustav Rivinius, Claire Thirion, The Belcea Quartet, Chiaroscuro Quartet, Quatuor Mosaïques, and Quatuor Ysaÿe. In an effort to pass on art in general, and the art of string quartet playing in particular, to new generations, the Akos Quartet has initiated many school projects. These range from a multi-year partnership with a kindergarten and elementary school in the Doubs region of France to conferences for musicology students at various universities.
