The Côte d’Azur. The wild and sunny shores of the Mediterranean Sea. A medieval village and its castle sit enthroned on the hills above the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer. Against this backdrop, Esty GROSSMAN has been passionately practicing the art of goldsmithing for over 30 years.
It all began at the age of 16, when her grandfather gave her a necklace and she heard him say, "If you don't like it, we can go back to the jeweler." Unhappy with the selection in the store, Esty made a sketch and asked the craftsman to make her her own piece of jewelry: the passion for design had captured her heart and would never let her go.
Esty first attended the Ecole de Joaillerie et Métaux d’Art in Montreal before continuing her studies in Barcelona at the renowned Escola Massana in the Contemporary Jewelry department. There, she deepened her expertise in mastering various techniques.
In 1994, her work was particularly recognized by the city of Cagnes-sur-Mer, which awarded her the prize for young designers of contemporary jewelry art. As an enthusiastic free diver, she lives out her dual love of the sea and goldsmithing intensely and discovers unexpected similarities between water and metal: "Both have the same fluidity, can be shaped and reshaped infinitely, and I move just as effortlessly in one as I model the other."
Today, the accomplished artist immerses herself in her world of metal to discover works inspired by her explorations in free diving.
Organic and authentic pieces that can only be found in the creative oasis of her studio, her secret laboratory. Sparkling starfish, playful and intertwined seahorses, sea urchins nestled in sweeping rings, corals that adapt to the natural forms of femininity. All her creations reflect her love for the ocean, its depths, its creatures, and its organisms from other worlds.
Discover her dream studio at the foot of the Château-Musée Grimaldi in Haut-de-Cagnes at any time or during the Ateliers du Château open house days, which take place every first Sunday of the month throughout the year.
