Paul Stebler

Painter / Sculptor

Paul Stebler completed his apprenticeship as a stonemason in 1980 and then did a one-year internship with sculptor Franco Annoni, a student of Marino Marini.

Until 1989, Paul Stebler worked as a stone sculptor for Strauss AG. Health problems arising from his work as a sculptor forced him to retrain professionally. Finally, his artistic passion, which had been nurtured since his youth, found fertile ground in various public courses at the School of Design in Basel. He completed a one-year preliminary course in design, followed by training as a scientific illustrator at the School of Design in Zurich, graduating in 1993 with an award.

For over ten years, Paul Stebler worked as a freelance stone sculptor, creating gravestones and free-standing sculptures for various clients. From 2000 onwards, Paul Stebler taught painting, drawing, and figurative modeling in the preliminary course at the School of Design in Basel and Lucerne. Paul Stebler also taught drawing and painting at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts from 2001 to 2021 in the bachelor's degree program in Nonfiction Illustration.

Paul Stebler has three children from his first marriage. He has been married to Marie-Thérèse Véron since 2014 and shares his studio with her. For eight years, the couple have been painting regularly in the great outdoors in Franche Comté.
