Peter Moilliet was born on November 5, 1921, in Bern, the son of painter Louis Moilliet. After completing his apprenticeship as a stone sculptor, he moved to Zurich, where he worked for Karl Geiser and attended Germaine Richiers' sculpture class for four years. He was a co-founder of the artists' association "Kreis 48."
1949 Marriage to Maria Marcella Vanz, a sought-after professional model for various renowned sculptors such as Otto Charles Bänninger, Karl Geiser, Marino Marini, and Germaine Richicher. Birth of daughters – Eva in 1948 and Kristin in 1951 – 1992
In 1949, he purchased an old farmhouse in Allschwil, where he lived and worked with his family from then on. His studio, the garden with its sculptures, and the vaulted cellar became expressions of his artistic personality. Numerous works by Peter Moilliet are on display in public spaces, archaically powerful in the monumental sculpture of the four evangelist symbols between the funeral halls of the Hörnli cemetery, quiet and intimate in the Pietà at the grave of the lonely, scenically witty on Leonhardskirchplatz in the bronze figure of the monument conservator Riggenbach, known as "Dingedinge." Hardly any of Peter Moilliet's works can be called abstract; many of them have a classic, serious timelessness, although irony and a distinct sense of humor shine through again and again. His wife Maria died in 2002, and Peter Moilliet died on March 10, 2016, at the age of 94.
