Beatrice Steudler

Lost Horizon

"When the painter says that she found artistic liberation in her earlier depictions of people and women, then it must be permissible to ask how much freedom she has achieved today with her new paintings." A.S.

With the exhibition title "Lost Horizon," Beatrice Steudler ventures partly into non-figurative painting and further into the digital reproduction of this theme, which became visible in her work as a surprising side effect of moving out of her studio in the barracks.

For years, a large tabletop served as a palette. Layer upon layer of paint bore witness to the struggle to find the right shade for the many figures, portraits, and small sculptures created at that time. The dismantled pieces of the tabletop are now the protagonists of various digital landscapes, photographed with a smartphone in the open air. Processed aluminum plates serve as backgrounds representing weather phenomena.
